Roofing PPC That Starts With the Margin on a Signed Roof

Most owners set a monthly number first and hope the phone rings enough to justify it. A roofing contractor has a better starting point, because a signed roof has a known margin. Once you know what a repair, a full replacement and an insurance-supported job each leave in your pocket after materials, labor, dumpsters and warranty reserve, the question changes. You stop asking how much to spend and start asking how much you can afford to pay to win one more signed job.

That framing matters because pay per click for roofers is lumpy. A repair call after a leak is cheap work for a fast crew. A replacement estimate takes a salesperson half a day and may close weeks later. A hail event creates a few frantic weeks that look nothing like February. A single blended budget hides all of that. When we plan roofing PPC for a contractor, each work type gets its own economics and its own campaign, so you can see which one is paying for itself.

It also protects you from the opposite mistake, which is underspending in a market where every competitor is bidding on the same emergency searches. If the margin on a replacement is large and your close rate on booked inspections is decent, a higher ceiling per booked estimate can be perfectly rational. The worksheet below turns that into arithmetic you can do at the kitchen table.

Roofing demand does not move in a straight line. Cold climates see a rush before and after winter, with leaks revealed during thaws. Warm and coastal markets lean on hurricane and heavy wind seasons. Everywhere, a hail or wind event can pull forward months of demand into a handful of days, and homeowners search on their phones from the driveway while holding a claim number.

The practical answer in Google Ads is preparation. Build storm campaigns in advance with claim-related and inspection-related keywords, store them paused, and switch them on for the neighborhoods that were actually hit. A paused campaign costs nothing and means you are not drafting ads while competitors are already live. Give the campaign its own daily cap so it cannot borrow from your steady repair and replacement budget, and decide ahead of time who answers those calls and who books the inspections.

Be careful with insurance language. Rules vary by state about what a contractor may say regarding claims, deductibles and public adjusters, and ad policies apply on top. Have your ad text reviewed against your state's contractor rules and read Google's current advertising policies before you publish claim-related copy. Promising to "get your claim approved" is the kind of line that causes trouble.

The slow months deserve a plan too. Many roofers keep a lower baseline in repair, inspection and maintenance searches, add a retail replacement push when financing offers or manufacturer promotions make sense, and use quiet weeks to improve landing pages and the callback process instead of cutting ads to nothing and losing ground.

Local Services Ads, where Google offers them for roofing in your area, can sit beside your Google Ads search campaigns because they bill per lead and show a verification badge. They have their own rules about disputing leads and about service categories, so treat them as a separate channel with a separate ledger. Bing and Meta are additions once Google is dialed in. Meta is useful for retargeting people who looked at your estimate page and for seasonal offers, though it behaves differently from search because nobody is typing a need.

Managed pay per click for a roofing company through GetPhound is $895 a month for one platform, $1,595 for two and $2,295 for three, with ad spend paid separately to the platform and no setup fee or contract. Organic search work like RankGuarantee™ at $495 a month, or Organic Growth from $1,495, is a different service that builds slower, and we only suggest it alongside ads when it fits.
